Urn Vaults have been around since cremation began. Centuries ago the remains were buried in urn vaults. History has made the urn vault popular and given it the appeal it has today. Many cemeteries today require an urn vault for burial. Other countries will not let you bury the urn without an urn vault because of environmental concerns.

The Purpose of Urn Vaults

The purpose of an urn vault is to provide protection against water or other natural elements. A growing number of cemeteries are beginning to insist on the use of urn vaults because of their strength and their ability to provide structural integrity, thus preventing the grave from settling. Over the years, cemetery operations have changed dramatically, so that the use of heavy equipment is now common.

Materials Used For Urn Vaults

Urn vaults come in following variety of materials: marble, plastic, stainless steel, bronze and fiberglass. Some cemeteries insist on the use of concrete, which we would recommend against, as they are not airtight or watertight. If the cemetery insist on concrete we recommend using a natural urn like marble or bronze, as other materials will rust of deteriorate with time.

Urn Vault Information

Urn vaults have different interiors. Some have smooth finishes and others have textured interior walls. The textured wall is called “spray coat flock interior.” Some interiors are painted. The nice thing about urn vaults is the ability to place some mementos inside the vault and seal it in with the urn. There are a few choices for sealing the urn vault. One method is: The “tongue in groove" is made so the lid will fit perfect on the body of the vault. An adhesive material is used to seal the lid to the body of the urn.
