Statues made from Granite StoneGranite has long since been utilized in various applications, for many centuries. From helping to construct the Great Pyramids of Giza, to the famous Mount Rushmore, and to more basic applications, such as memorial monuments, granite is a very valuable natural resource that continues to prove its importance as time goes on. Granite is an igneous stone, meaning that it forms deep within the mantle, as different minerals are fused together due to the heat and pressure of the surrounding earth. As the granite cools, the minerals form a series of crystalline structures, permanently fused together to create one large and durable mass. This stone is usually quarried, or collected, directly out of the earth, from the geological area where it forms. Once quarried, the granite can be distributed to different companies around the country and world, for various uses; one of which the most impressive is sculpture. Granite statues are made of the natural and durable material that has been revered for its resistance to the elements. Unlike softer stones, such as limestone, and even marble, which eventually wear away due to erosion, granite withstands the natural climate, and holds personalization much longer. This allows the sculptural work to be displayed in virtually any setting, adding a beautiful touch of elegance to the landscape. These statues feature a variety of religious designs, which range from traditional to modern. This selection even includes a few master studies, such as Michelangelo's famous Pieta, in which the Blessed Mother holds the body of Christ in her lap, lamenting his sacrifice for our sins. Angels make up a large portion of this collection, and make beautiful additions to both private and commercial areas. Because these statues prove such resilience to the elements, it makes them ideal candidates for placement in cemeteries, or even directly at the gravesite of a loved one. Many individuals can find great comfort in knowing that the piece not only accentuates the area, but also casts a watchful eye of angelic protection over the final resting place of the beloved. The use of natural materials, such as granite, to create monuments or memorials is certainly not a modern application. While that is so, it is interesting to note that the use of granite to create memorial tributes is, more or less, a recent discovery. While that is so, sculptures from granite are not that new of an innovation, and these beautiful, natural material has, and continues to prove its true value throughout the various tests of time. With that said, there is no question that a beautiful granite statue can add an elegant and artistic touch to any setting, to be enjoyed by many generations to come. |
