Comfort, or worry stones, may seem like a modern innovation, as they are now available in a wide array of materials, shapes, and even designs. While this is the main conclusion on these small yet powerful tokens, it is actually a misconception. Worry stones have been in history for many millennia, and are thought to have originated in ancient Greece. The initial stones held for comfort were not polished by man, as many of them are today, but instead were refined by the elements of the sea, which washed these small, smooth rocks to shore. Since then, worry stones have become widely sought after for their soothing qualities, and have been incorporated in many different cultures and traditions.
