Awareness Stones
Nathaniel Branden, a psychotherapist and writer once said, "The first step toward change is awareness. The second step is acceptance." This quote is particularly intriguing because it makes us realize how sometimes, the answers are right in front of us. It is not possible to address any situation properly without first accepting the matter at hand. This can be very difficult to do, especially when the matter at hand is a loved one who is suffering through a difficult situation, such as an illness or disease. While the situation may make us feel helpless, and in turn, useless, we must not allow our fears or emotions to get the best of us, but instead be strong for those who are suffering first hand, as that strength will help them persevere. It is also important to show one's support for the individual, as many do by wearing special colored ribbons, or participating in events that help raise awareness or that directly provide needed funds for treatments, medication, or therapy.
