What are cremation diamonds?

A special type of jewel that takes the natural carbon elements from your loved one's hair or ashes and turns them into diamonds. This special process creates a truly unique, one-of-a-kind family heirloom that can be passed down through your family forever.

Are cremation diamonds real diamonds?

Yes. Regular diamonds are minerals that are formed underground over millions of years. Cremation diamonds are made from human ashes or hair.

How much does it cost to turn ashes into a diamond?

Cremation diamonds start at $2,698.95 and go up to $7,897.95. The carat size of the diamond is the biggest determiner of cost with the larger carat size costing more than the smaller size. Second, color also determines price. A clear cremation diamond being at the top of the line.

How much of the ashes do you need to make a diamond?

For ashes, we ask that you provide 200 grams (roughly a U.S. cup). If you want to use hair instead, we will need about 10 grams (roughly 2 teaspoons). If you do not have enough hair, you can also always take the hair from other living family members to create a true family heirloom.

How are cremation diamonds made?

The unique process begins when the ashes or hair of a loved one are collected. The carbon present in either the ash or hair is the main component used to create the ash diamond. Once the hair or ash is collected, and the carbon harvested, the remains are heated to extreme temperatures to convert the carbon into a refined graphite, which is necessary to create the diamond. The graphite is finally placed in a special chamber that recreates the two essential forces in nature, necessary to create a diamond: heat and pressure. The remains of the loved one are handled with great care, and are placed in special crucibles that are each marked to identify the remains, and which are only used once. Once the rough diamond emerges from the chamber, a skilled diamond cutter facets the diamond into the selected style, and a gemologist certifies the grade of the diamond. The result is a beautiful diamond with all the luster, hardness, and other characteristics as any diamond found in nature.

How long does it take to create a cremation diamond?

The entire process takes between 3 and 9 months. This is dependent on the size, color and cut of the diamond. A pretty short period of time when you consider that it typically takes millions of years to create natural diamonds.

TESTIMONIALS
"After the passing of our daughter we were shocked at the prices we were quoted at the cemetery. We began shopping around online and came to memorials.com, everyone here was so helpful. We picked our design online and then we called and spoke to a very helpful woman about our payment arrangements. They were very professional and courteous. Even after our cemetery returned the design with their list of changes which cost us an additional $300 memorials.com gave us the opportunity to get the extra money in order while they designed the headstone. We were able to approve the layout and pay the additional money on the same day so there was no additional time in getting our headstone. I called and spoke with someone on 3 different occasions and never once sat on hold or spoke to a machine. In a time of great loss memorials.com was nothing but a great help. We ended up saving over $1,000 on the headstone even with the additional charges tacked on by the cemetery. We could never thank you enough. "
